Bruce Banner Strain Regular SeedsOG Kush × Strawberry Diesel regulars for breeders and pheno hunters

4.90 out of 5 · 10 reviews

The Bruce Banner strain is the high-THC OG Kush × Strawberry Diesel hybrid that Jason Holck of Dark Horse Genetics made famous in Denver, best known through its #3 phenotype. These are regular seeds, so roughly half the plants will be male. That suits growers who want to breed with Bruce Banner, hunt for their own standout female or keep a mother plant, more than growers who only want a jar of buds.

Quick answer

What is the Bruce Banner strain?

Bruce Banner is a sativa-leaning OG Kush × Strawberry Diesel hybrid credited to Jason Holck of Dark Horse Genetics and famous for very high THC, especially in its #3 phenotype. Strain databases report 24–30% THC for top cuts, a fuel-and-strawberry aroma and a fast, euphoric high that settles into the body. This regular version flowers in 8 to 10 weeks indoors and produces both male and female plants.

Genetics & origin

Where does the Bruce Banner strain come from?

Bruce Banner was bred by Jason Holck, founder of Dark Horse Genetics, who crossed Strawberry Diesel with an OG Kush cut in the mid-2000s. In a 2016 interview quoted by Cannigma, Holck named that OG parent as Cold Creek Kush, while most strain sites simply list the cross as OG Kush × Strawberry Diesel. He said the name was a joke on his own last name, and Bruce Banner was among the first strains on the shelves when he opened a Denver dispensary in 2008.

The cross was sorted into numbered phenotypes, and #1, #3 and #5 are the ones growers mention most. Bruce Banner #3 became the famous cut: Cannigma quotes High Times calling it the most potent strain ever tested at its Cannabis Cup, and the magazine later placed Bruce Banner on its list of the best strains of all time. In 2016 Oregon regulators put the name on a list of strain names they felt could appeal to children, a decision the breeder disputed.

What do the numbers in Bruce Banner #1, #3 and #5 mean?

The numbers mark individual phenotypes picked from the original Bruce Banner seed run, not separate crosses. Each numbered plant was a sister from the same two parents, kept alive as a clone because it stood out, and #3 is the one that built the name for potency. Growing Bruce Banner from regular seed repeats that process on a small scale: every seedling is a fresh shuffle of OG Kush and Strawberry Diesel genes, so plants differ in height, smell and strength.

Regular seeds throw a wider spread of plants than feminized ones. If you want a female that resembles #3, grow several, compare them side by side, and clone the best before she finishes.

Effects, aroma & terpenes

Reported effects

People who try Bruce Banner usually describe a fast, euphoric head rush that turns happy and creative, then settles into a heavier body feel. Because the strongest cuts test so high, many users say a small amount goes a long way.

Bruce Banner's reported downsides are dry mouth, dry or red eyes, dizziness and, at high doses, paranoia.

Grow guide

How do you grow Bruce Banner seeds?

Bruce Banner regular seeds grow like any photoperiod Bruce Banner, with one added job: find and remove the males before they release pollen, unless you plan to breed. Veg until the plants show their sex, flower the females for 8 to 10 weeks, and give the tall plants room or training.

  1. Germinate3–7 days

Start more Bruce Banner seeds than the number of females you need, since about half will turn out male.

  2. Vegetate4–8 weeks

Top or bend the plants early. Bruce Banner usually reveals its sex at the nodes after 4 to 6 weeks of growth, or within two weeks of 12/12.

  3. Flower8–10 weeks

Pull or isolate male plants as soon as pollen sacs appear. Females stretch, so finish SCROG or LST work in the first two weeks of bloom.

  4. HarvestDay ~63–70 indoors · late Sep to early Oct outdoors

Harvest when most trichomes look cloudy, then dry the dense Bruce Banner buds slowly with steady airflow.

Grow tips for Bruce Banner

  • Learn to sex early. Bruce Banner males grow small round pollen sacs at the nodes, while females show white, hair-like pistils. Check every few days once plants are mature.
  • Keep a male only on purpose. One open pollen sac can seed a whole room. If you want to breed, move the chosen male to a separate space and collect his pollen there.
  • Clone before you flower. Take a labeled cutting from every Bruce Banner plant in late veg. When you find the best female, her clone is already rooted and ready to keep as a mother.
  • Give the stretch room. Plants reach about 100–180 cm and the OG side stretches in early bloom, so top early and fill a net rather than letting one tall cola run.
  • Ventilate for smell and density. Bruce Banner's diesel aroma gets loud in late flower. A carbon filter handles the odor, and steady airflow keeps moisture from settling inside thick colas.
  • Choose a dry finish outdoors. Outdoor Bruce Banner finishes from late September to early October and does best where that stretch of fall stays warm and dry.

FAQ

Bruce Banner strain FAQ

Is Bruce Banner indica or sativa?

Bruce Banner is usually listed as a sativa-dominant hybrid, about 60% sativa and 40% indica on AllBud. SeedFinder's entry calls it mostly indica, which shows how much plants vary. Most users describe a heady start with a solid body finish.

What are regular Bruce Banner seeds?

Regular Bruce Banner seeds come from a normal male and female parent, so each seed can grow into either sex at roughly a 50/50 split. Breeders and growers who keep mother plants prefer them, because the males can be used to make new seeds.

How do I tell male Bruce Banner plants from females?

Look at the nodes where branches meet the main stem. Male Bruce Banner plants form small, round pollen sacs on short stalks, while females grow wispy white pistils. Signs often show in late veg and are clear within the first two weeks of 12/12.

Who bred Bruce Banner?

Bruce Banner is credited to Jason Holck, founder of Dark Horse Genetics. He crossed Strawberry Diesel with an OG Kush cut in the mid-2000s and sold Bruce Banner through his Denver dispensary from 2008. He has said the name was a joke on his last name.

How strong is Bruce Banner?

Bruce Banner is one of the strongest classic strains. AllBud lists 24–29% THC and some seed banks list up to 30%, while Cannigma's average across retail products sold under the name is about 19%. Results from regular seed vary by plant and growing conditions.

What is Bruce Banner #3?

Bruce Banner #3 is the best-known numbered phenotype from the original cross. Cannigma quotes High Times calling it the most potent strain ever tested at its Cannabis Cup, which made the #3 cut the benchmark for everything sold as Bruce Banner.

How long does Bruce Banner take to flower?

Bruce Banner flowers in about 8 to 10 weeks indoors, and SeedFinder lists roughly 63 days. Outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere it finishes from late September to early October.

How tall does Bruce Banner get?

Bruce Banner reaches about 100–180 cm (3.3–6 ft) in seed-bank listings and stretches after flowering begins. Topping and a SCROG net keep it manageable in an indoor tent.

Should I choose regular or feminized Bruce Banner seeds?

Choose regular Bruce Banner seeds if you want males for breeding or a wider pool of plants to search through. Choose feminized seeds if you only want buds, since they skip sexing and grow female plants.
